Botanical description of the plant

Viburnum opulus is a deciduous shrub that grows up to 4-5 meters in height. The leaves are opposite, 5-10 cm (2-4 inches) long and broad, with a round base and rough toothed edges; they look like the leaves of some maples. Leaf buds are green, 4-11 cm. The flowers are pollinated by insects. The seeds are propagated by birds.

Medicinal properties

The fruit is consumed in small quantities, has a very acidic taste; from it can be used to prepare jelly. However, it is mildly toxic and, if consumed in large quantities, can cause vomiting or diarrhea.

Growing technology

It is grown as an ornamental plant for its flowers and fruits, but grows best in moist, moderately alkaline soils.
