The beautiful and charming Thuja Golden Globe (Thuja occidentalis Golden globe) undoubtedly deserves your attention. It has virtually no drawbacks; this chic beauty will decorate your garden all year round. The variety was bred in the USA by gardener F. Grotendorst. This variety of thuja belongs to the low-growing, slow-growing forms. At the age of 15 – 20 years, the height and width reaches from 0.8 to 1.5 meters, these are its maximum dimensions. The annual growth is 8-10 cm. Golden Globe received its magnificence and unusualness thanks to the original, double coloring of the needles. The bulk of the crown is colored emerald, rich green, and the edges of the needles are golden yellow, which turns copper in the fall. By spring, the thuja returns to yellowish hues. The plant is not fussy to care for, but there are some nuances that must be taken into account, especially when the bush is young. Thuja is photophilous, loves sunny places, and grows well in openwork partial shade. Does not like shady areas and drafts. It is undemanding to the soil, but for its decorative effect it requires fertile, loose, slightly acidic soil. The best option is moist loamy soil. From the age of two, the plant is fed with universal fertilizer (every spring). Golden Globe tolerates pruning well. Ephedra winters well, withstands air temperatures down to -35C, but young shrubs need to be covered. It is not affected by fungal diseases, but has poor resistance to insects and pests. Timely treatment will provide reliable protection to the plant.
