SEED GROWING DEPARTMENT OF TASHKENT BOTANICAL GARDEN

In recent years, the republic has been implementing consistent reforms to develop the seed industry, rational use of natural resources, and the organization and processing of plantations for growing trees, shrubs, and medicinal plants.

In particular, the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. URQ-521 dated February 16, 2019 “On Seed Production”, relevant resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers, National Program No. 51 aimed at developing seed production and seedling production in 2023–2026, as well as paragraph 20 of the “Roadmap for the systematic organization of green space development, landscaping, and planting” established in Appendix 5 to Decree No. PF-46 dated December 30, 2021, sets out the tasks of creating a selection seed base in forest fund areas.

Also, within the framework of the list of “DRIVER” innovative projects in economic sectors (Appendix 4, paragraph 24), approved by Decree No. PF-307 of July 6, 2022, the implementation of decisions on the establishment of permanent and primary seed plantations of forest and forest fruit trees in the regions in 2023-2026 is being ensured.

Based on these documents, a number of practical, scientific and organizational works are being effectively carried out by the Seed Department.

Methods used in the Seed Department
A number of scientific and practical methods are used in the activities of the Seed Department in the processes of collecting, planting, caring for, studying and acclimatizing plant seeds. Including:

— Field methods
planting and caring for seeds in the field,

observing growth dynamics and development phases,

evaluating adaptation processes.

— Laboratory methods
determine the degree of germination of seeds,

checking the indicators of moisture, purity and viability,

microbiological analyzes.

— Experimental methods
conduct experiments in different temperature, humidity and light regimes,

increase germination by stratification, scarification, application of phytohormones.

— Introduction methods
plant seeds imported from foreign countries through indexes in a quarantine plot,

evaluate the processes of adaptation to a new environment,

scientifically determine the effectiveness of introduction.

Phenological methods
record the vegetation stages of plants on a calendar basis,

systematic monitoring of flowering, fruiting, seed ripening periods.

Statistical methods
mathematical processing of the obtained evidence,

calculation of percentages, average values, variance and other indicators,

evaluate the results of experiments on a scientific basis.
