Academician F.N. Rusanov at the Institute of Botany of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan On April 22-25, 2025, an international seminar on "Wild ancestors of cultivated plants of Central Asia" began its work at the Tashkent Botanical Garden.
The conference is attended by more than 40 participants from South Korea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, including representatives of leading research institutions, botanical gardens, and international organizations.
The seminar is organized within the framework of the international project "Protection of the wild ancestors of cultivated plants and their sustainable use in Central Asia." The main objectives of the seminar are:
Strengthening cooperation in the field of protecting genetic resources in Central Asia;
Development of sustainable agriculture by studying wild plants;
Exchange of experience between scientific institutions and formation of regional strategies.
At the conference, special attention will be paid to Allium plants (piyoz and its varieties), and excursions and special presentations will be held at the recently established Allium Garden in the Tashkent Botanical Garden.
At the opening ceremony of the seminar, Academician F.N. Rusanov, Director of the Tashkent Botanical Garden S.Kh. Abdinazarov spoke about the role of wild ancestors of cultivated plants in preserving biodiversity and ensuring food security in Central Asia.
The following events will be held within the framework of the seminar:
Discussion of the state and registration of wild ancestors of cultivated plants in Central Asia;
"round tables" with the participation of experts and researchers;
Presentations on the accumulated experience;
Practical excursions to mountain ecosystems.
